Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) Recipes

 

Wild Bergamot Focaccia

 

Ingredients:

 

  • Your favorite focaccia dough recipe or pre-made dough

  • 1–2 tbsp chopped wild bergamot leaves

  • Olive oil, sea salt

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Flatten dough on a baking tray.

  2. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with bergamot and sea salt.

  3. Bake per dough instructions (usually 400°F for 20–25 min).

 

Floral, herbal, and excellent paired with cheeses or soups.

 

Wild Bergamot Herb Butter

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped wild bergamot leaves

  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest

  • Pinch of salt

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Mix all ingredients together until smooth.

  2. Roll into a log in parchment or spoon into a small dish.

  3. Chill until firm.

 

Spread on cornbread, melt over grilled meats or vegetables, or use in pasta.

 

Wild Bergamot-Infused Honey

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1/2 cup fresh wild bergamot flowers

  • 1 cup raw honey

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Gently warm honey (do not boil).

  2. Add flowers and let steep 1–2 weeks in a sealed jar.

  3. Strain and store.

 

Drizzle over yogurt, biscuits, or use in tea. Great herbal gift idea!

 

Wild Bergamot Summer Spritzer (Mocktail or Cocktail)

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1 tbsp wild bergamot syrup (or see honey above)

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

  • Sparkling water

  • Optional: gin or vodka

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Combine syrup and lime juice in glass.

  2. Add ice and top with sparkling water.

  3. Garnish with bergamot flower.

 

Wild Bergamot Tea (Digestive & Relaxing)

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1–2 tsp fresh or 1 tsp dried wild bergamot leaves/flowers

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • Optional: honey or lemon

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Steep bergamot in hot water for 8–10 minutes.

  2. Strain and enjoy warm or chilled.

  3. Sweeten if desired.

 

Great for sore throats, digestion, or simply as a relaxing evening tea.

 

 

Wild Bergamot Vinaigrette

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped wild bergamot leaves or flowers

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup

  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Whisk all ingredients until well combined.

  2. Store in fridge and shake before use.

 

Pairs beautifully with greens, wild berries, and goat cheese in salads.
